Avon Woods Arboretum is a volunteer-run public arboretum recognizing specimen trees in the Avon Woods Neighborhood of East Memphis. Led by neighborhood resident Judith Rutschman, the group had identified all of the trees in all of the front yards of Avon Woods and in the fall of 2018 began the work of labeling about 40 different varieties of trees with markers indicating each tree’s common name and scientific name (genus and species).
Now the talk of the neighborhood, the Arboretum needed an identity and online map. With a tangible brand and online presence, the Arboretum grew from an assortment of labeled trees to neighborhood events, such as a tree planting, activities like a Valentine’s Day “Share your love for trees” campaign, and resources for people interested in trees, tree planting and care.
